Software installation failed
Two separate questions: can it be installed, and are you licensed to run it?There are usually two separate questions wearing one error message: whether the software can be installed on this machine, and whether this business is entitled to run it. They fail at the same moment and they have nothing to do with each other.
What you may notice
- The installer stops partway with a generic error.
- It needs administrator rights nobody has.
- It installs but won't activate.
- A download link has expired or points at an old version.
- It works on one machine and not another.
Separate the installer from the entitlement
We check the machine, the account running the install, the rights required, existing versions and any policy in the way. Separately, we check whether the licence, seat or subscription for this person actually exists.
The second one is worth settling before anyone spends an hour on the first. A surprising number of installation problems are a purchasing conversation that hasn't happened, and an afternoon of troubleshooting can't fix a seat that was never bought.
