Teams microphone or camera not working
Teams is where it appears, not where it starts. The dock, the driver or another app is holding the camera.Teams is usually where the problem appears rather than where it starts. A dock, a driver, an operating-system privacy setting or another application still holding the camera all present the same way: Teams opens, the call connects and nobody can hear you.
What you may notice
- The microphone or camera is missing from the Teams device list.
- Video works in one application but not another.
- Sound disappears after a dock is unplugged and reconnected.
- A headset plays music but won't carry a call.
- Colleagues hear an echo, or nothing at all.
Check the device before changing the application
We check the hardware, its drivers, the dock or cable involved, the privacy permissions the operating system applies and which application currently holds the device. Then we check the Teams settings themselves.
Reinstalling Teams is the usual first move and rarely the fix. If the hardware never reached the operating system, no application sitting on top of it can find it, and an afternoon spent reinstalling is an afternoon the actual cause stays where it is.
